Geary County Fire was dispatched to the 2400 block of West Lyon Creek Road around 1:10 p.m. on Thursday afternoon for a grass fire. Due to the extreme winds, 5 trucks were dispatched to respond. Upon arrival, three trucks were used to extinguish the fire, including our new brush unit. The other two trucks were cancelled and were able to return back to their response areas.
The resident had discarded ashes from his fireplace outside Thursday morning. The high winds helped expose some embers, starting the grass on fire. Units were on scene for approximately 40 minutes.
