There was a big turnout of friends and colleagues at the retirement reception for Geary USD 475 Associate Superintendent of Schools Dr. Debra Gustafson on Wednesday at the Devin Center. It was an emotional day for Gustafson. "I am extremely emotional. I've been emotional pretty much since I announced it ( retirement ). it's coming up to this day when I knew I was going to see a lot of my former teachers and colleagues."
Gustafson expressed surprise at the people who drove a long way to say hello. "People I haven't seen for 20-25 years. It's been a remarkable evening."
Gustafson has been employed by USD 475 for 47 years. Her final day on the job will be June 30. Gustafson has worked in the school district as a secretary, a paraprofessional, teacher, principal and as the Associate Superintendent.
