House of Ruth has invited the Geary County community including organizations to participate in their 2022 Adopt a Room Drive for the Fresh Start Emergency Shelter at 136 West 3rd Street in Junction City. This event will be held on May 14th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Shelter provides temporary residence for homeless individuals and families.
Each person or organization that joins in this drive will be assisting the Shelter by providing such things as new beddings, curtains and rugs or other items for each room in the facility. Contributions will help provide people who are homeless in the community with a safe, clean place to stay during difficult times.
The goal of the shelter is to provide accommodation for people who have nowhere to sleep and are used to quickly deal with emergency situations such as adverse weather conditions or domestic abuse. Homeless people can experience barriers to self-care and personal hygiene, including limited access to clean showers, laundry and hand washing facilities.
