Joan Westmorland Cloutier, 80, of Manhattan, KS passed away on June 21, 2021 at Meadowlark Hills.
Joan was born on May 31, 1941 in Chicago, IL to Tony Westmorland and Etta Orr Westmorland. She left Chicago at an early age when she enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps. On January 6, 1971, Joan married Peter L. Cloutier and enjoyed supporting his 30 years of service in the U.S. Army. They lived in Ft. Riley, KS, Ft. Bliss, TX, Giebelstadt, Germany, and Ft. Hood, TX before retiring in Shawnee, KS, their home for 20 years.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, Peter; three sons, Grant E. Collins of McLean, VA, Tony E. (Leah) Collins of Olathe, KS, Lamont G. (Shelly) Cloutier of Shawnee, KS; daughter, Tamara C. (James) Byland of Manhattan, KS; six grandchildren, Marcus A. Collins, Kreed A. Collins, Tonie M. Cloutier, Nevaeh R. Cloutier, James E. Byland, and Sarai J. Byland; brother Johnny Westmorland; and sister, Joyce Westmorland Jones. Joan was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Billie Jean Westmoreland.
Joan earned degrees from Kansas State University and the University of Kansas leading her to a lifelong career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She retired from private practice in 2015. A woman of faith, Joan volunteered as Eucharistic minister, lector, director of religious education, and choir singer. Her hobbies included painting, writing poetry, reading, and traveling. She was well known for her love of holidays including her collections of Easter, Halloween, and Christmas villages.
The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Johnson Cremations, Funerals and Receptions in Junction City, KS. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, July 12, 2021 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan, KS. Burial will follow in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at Fort Riley.
