Work on a new Geary Courthouse Security Building is scheduled to begin the first week of March. County Public Works released information saying the facility will be approximately 740 square feet in size and will be located directly west of the existing Courthouse.

As part of the project, deteriorated concrete landings and steps along with sidewalks leading up to the Courthouse will be replaced. Interior renovation repairs to the east and west entries of the building will also be included.

Architect Brett Deam was retained to design the new building and project scope. On Dec. 20, 2021 Geary County Commissioners accepted a bid from Cheney Construction for a contract cost of $728,951. American Recovery Program Act and Public Building Commission funds will be used to pay for the project.
