Junction City Commissioners have agreed to provide another $50,000 in funding for a new Geary County Food Pantry facility that will be built at the northwest corner of Seventh & Clay Streets. The contribution comes on top of $50,000 provided by the City in December. Food Pantry spokesman Brad Carlton noted at that time that the City asked them to return and so they did Tuesday night.
The Geary County Commission will be approached next week with a similar $50,000 funding request.
The need for food from the Pantry has doubled since COVID-19. Carlton informed the governing body that the current facility is "busting at the seams." He noted that Hutton Construction will build the new facility at cost.
Prior to Tuesday evening $320,000 of $500,000 needed had been raised for the building project.
