Geary County Commissioners have approved a conditional use permit request that would allow Flint Hills Rural Electric to put a substation and solar panels at a K-57 location south of Grandview Plaza.
Commissioner Trish Giordano made the motion which included the requirement that the electricity produced will remain in the local service area. The substation would be a backup power supply for Grandview Plaza and the rural area served by the company.
