Jo Ann (Scott) Davis passed at her home Thursday, April 25, 2025.She was born on June 15,1936 in Benton, Arkansas to Elmer Edell Scott and Irma Evangeline (Davidson) Scott. They moved to Hope, Kansas when she was one year old, where she grew up on the family farm.She attended Mr. Ayr grade school until her eighth-grade graduation. She graduated from Hope High School in 1954. She then graduated from Brown Mackie School of Business in Salina, Kansas. After graduation she worked for the State Soil Conservation Service.
She married Calvin Dee Davis on May 12, 1956. They were married for 66 years. They had 3 daughters.Jo Ann’s joy was raising her family. She was very involved in her children’s activities. She was a 4-H foods leader, FHA chapter mother and attended hundreds of sporting events. Her house was “the house” for the “country girls” to go to before ballgames for a meal. Her family spent many weekends camping at the lake. Later she enjoyed all her grandchildren’s events also. She was also a caregiver to many family members.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hope. Jo Ann was a charter member of the Hope Saddle Club. She and Ardis McMahan created and led the drill team of the saddle club. In retirement, Jo Ann and Calvin took many trips to Branson, MO, where they camped with a group of friends.Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, husband Calvin Dee Davis, Grandson Dustin Sandow, brother and sister-in-law Bill and Laurel (Plank) Scott.She is survived by daughters Brenda (Mark) Meuli, Becky (Dave) Drury, Bobbie (Jeff) Hostetter. 13 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren.
Visitation will be May 9th from 5-7pm at the Martin, Becker, Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene, KS. There will be a graveside service on Saturday May 10th at 10:30 at the Hope City Cemetery. There will be a lunch to follow at the Annex on Main Street in Hope.The family suggests memorials may be made to the Hope United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, Kansas 67410.
