Longhorn Cattle Drive is slated for downtown Junction City

Downtown will be the site for a Longhorn Cattle Drive hosted by the  Junction City Main Street organization. July 13 will be the date for this event.

The activities begin at 9:45 on the 13th with the unveiling of the tenth JC Statue followed by the cattle drive at 10 a.m. The theme for the statue is Railroads and Cattle Drives.

There are 21  head of Longhorn cattle being brought from Oklahoma for the event. Terry Butler, Junction City Main Street Board of Directors Vice President, said there will also be participation by the Fort Riley Commanding General's Mounted Color Guard and the Central Plains Rodeo Association rodeo queen. "We are expecting a tremendous crowd. This is going to be a tremendous opportunity for families to come, for children. We really want the community to fill the streets along Washington to enjoy this moment."

The cattle will be brought in on the 12th of July, and be held overnight at JC Livestock Sales  On the 13th they will be driven from the sale barn up to the East 6th Street bridge and then across it to Washington Street. They will travel from 6th and Washington north to 10th Street and then back east, eventually winding up at the sale barn.
