During recent weeks the topic of data centers has surfaced in the United States. Geary county Commission Chair Kathy Tremont noted there have been some Kansas counties where data centers now exist. "Data centers are just kind of a storage facility for data. They can truly do a lot of damage if they're put up, depending on where they're going."
Tremont noted that she thought Geary County Commissioners felt strongly that they need a moratorium in place while due diligence is done.
The idea of a three-year moratorium is receiving support from the governing body. "I don't think any of us commissioners are for data centers at this time."
