MSG (Retired) Willie Earl Hunter

MSG (Retired) Willie Earl Hunter, 78, of Junction City, KS, died Saturday, November 2, 2019 at his home. Willie was born November 21, 1940 in Ft. Worth, Texas, the son of Eddie and Teasie Mae (English) Hunter. Willie attended schools in Ft. Worth and graduated from high school there.


Willie joined the U.S. Army in September 1961 and spent over 23 years in the military, retiring as a Master Sergeant in October, 1984. Willie served 2 tours of duty during the Vietnam War. He received several medals, including the Vietnam Service Medal with a Silver Star, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, a Meritorious Service Medal.


After his Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army, Willie worked for many years in Personnel Management on Ft. Riley.


Willie was a Life Member of the William Leroy Talbot, Post #8773 of the V.F.W. in Junction City.


Willie married Patricia Johnson in Brooklyn, New York. They were later divorced, but remained close friends.


Survivors include: 2 sons, Damon Hunter and his wife, Julie, of Fife, Washington, and Tyrone A. Hunter, of Aurora, Colorado; a daughter, Yavette Hill, of Olathe; his ex-wife, Patricia Hunter, of Junction City; and 5 grandchildren. Willie was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Eddie Hunter.


A memorial inurnment service will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 21, 2019 at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Riley, Manhattan, Kansas. Military Honors will be presented by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley.
