Donald F. (Don) Ross

Donald F. (Don) Ross, Sr., 80, of White City, died November 10, 2019 at Valley View Senior Life in Junction City. Don was born May 2, 1939 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Francis and Delores (Nauer) Ross. Don attended schools in Milwaukee, and joined the U.S Army in 1958.


Don spent over 20 years in the U.S. Army, retiring SFC in 1982 at Ft. Riley. He served in the VietNam War during 1967-1968. During his assignment in Hawaii, he attended the University of Hawaii for 2 years.


After his honorable discharge from the military, Don owned and operated the White City Trading Post for 19 years.


Don married Charlene Wampler on September 12, 1981 in Merriam, Kansas. Charlene survives of the home.


Other survivors include: 4 sons, Donald Ross, Jr., Minneapolis, MN, Duane Miller-Suchey and his wife Mary, Oneonta, AL, David Ross and his wife JeNeil, Quinton, AL, and Chris Wampler and his wife Asia, Kansas City, KS; 4 daughters, Kelly Grooms and her husband, Greg, Rubicon, WI, Dawn Miramontes and her husband Sigfried, Orange Grove, CA, Debbie Victory, Hayden, AL, and Amber Davis and her husband Jacob, White City; a brother, Francis Ross, Jr., The Villages, FL; 19 grandchildren, Justin, Jacob, and Jason Grooms, Alejandro Miramontes, Carrie and Alex Victory, Casey, Damiane, Hannah, Amanda, and Michael Miller-Suchey, Andrew, Jessica, and Tobias Ross, Dana, Kimberly and Ryan Davis, Kirtis Rithmixay, and Landen Wampler; and 5 great grandchildren, Ember, Ava, Jonathan, Makaela, and Dean Grooms. Don was preceded in death by a 2 brothers, Richard and Thomas Ross; a sister, Delores (Dolly) Schmidt; a niece, Kristin Martens.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 18, 2019 at St. Xavier Catholic Church. A committal service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Riley, Manhattan. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley. The family will greet friends on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019 from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home. A Parish Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
