Bernard Colman Ebert

Bernard Colman Ebert, 69, of Topeka, Kansas, died Sunday, November 17, 2019, at his home. 


Bernard was born on June 2, 1950, in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Yvo and Patricia Farrell Ebert. He attended local schools and graduated in 1968 from Onaga High School. He then served in the United States Army in Viet Nam, earning several honors and the rank of sergeant.

Bernard worked for over 25 years as a clerk for the Burlington-Santa Fe Railroad. Prior to the working for the BNSF, he worked for the Rock Island Railroad. He also for a short time sold real estate and insurance.


Bernard was very proud of his military service and was a regular volunteer at the VA hospital in Topeka. He was also interviewed for the veteran's project.

Bernard married Patricia Harrison on April 27, 1974 in Atchison, Kansas. She preceded him in death on May 23, 2015.

Bernard is survived by his son, Bryce Ebert, Topeka; his granddaughter, Bailey Ray, Plattsmouth, Nebraska; his siblings, Ralph Ebert (Marleen, Yuma, Colorado, Louise Carlin (Theo, Council Grove, Jerome Ebert (Barbara, Topeka, Edwin Ebert (Sue, Wamego, Harold Ebert (Marguerite, Seattle Washington, Kevin Ebert, Carrollton, Texas, Shawn Ebert (Angel, Paxico, Maureen Adams (Chris, Council Grove and Gregory Ebert (Lisa, Kinsley; his brother-in-law, Dwight Turner and sister-in-law, Patricia Ebert, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Turner and brother, William Ebert.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, December 7, 2019, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Wamego. Father Mike Peterson will be the Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery. A Rosary prayer service will be held prior to Mass at 10:00 am. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka, Kansas, and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Evans Mortuary.
