Don Richard Huse, 94, passed away November 29, 2019, at Kindred Hospital in Kansas City, MO. He was a lifelong resident of Manhattan.
He was born February 2, 1925, the son of Robert and Adaline Huse.
Don graduated from Manhattan High School in 1942. In 1943, at the age of 18, he joined the Army to serve his country. A Staff Sergeant with the 76th Field Artillery Battalion during WWII stationed in Europe, and a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge. After the war he began working as an electrician learning the trade from Joe Burr. Later Don and Dick Endacott started their own electrical business. Later Don started his own company, Huse Electric as a commercial refrigeration and electrical contractor. After years of self-employment he became an instructor at Manhattan VO TECH.
He loved watching KSU football, KC Royals, and KC Chiefs. In the summertime he was at the lake with family and friends, boating and fishing. Don and Jim Fay built a 25’ cabin cruiser launching on Tuttle Creek Lake in 1963. He rebuilt jeeps and enjoyed going on the Briggs Jeep Jamborees. Don loved visiting with his students and many friends at the Eagles and the Lil Grill.
Don is survived by his wife Nona Jenkins Huse of 73 years; daughter Donna Berner and husband Larry of Council Grove, KS; three grandchildren: Mark (Renee) Berner of Council Grove, Todd (Amber) Berner of Vancouver, WA, and Brynn (Nic) Bologna of Kansas City, MO; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Eugene Huse; and a nephew Gary Jenkins.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, December 5th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Reverend Ben Duerfeldt officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Ashland Cemetery south of Manhattan.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 A.M. Thursday until the service time at the funeral home.
