Three weeks of practice have been completed and it's time for the Junction City High School varsity and junior varsity basketball teams to open their seasons. Junction City plays at Dodge City Friday night with the girls varsity game beginning at 6 p.m. followed by the boys about 7:45 p.m.

Blue Jay boys coach Nick Perez said the team is a little bit inexperienced, but he is pleased with the work of the seniors. "Quavez Humphreys has done a great job, Calvin Range has done a great job, Darrin Batiste has done a great job for us and Luke Hughes . It's good to have him back." Perez added, "At this point in practice it's just the mental stuff. Athletically we're really good, but it's being able to run a set when it matters, being able to guard your guy when it matters."

On the girls side new Lady Jay head coach Tim Testa is excited. "I have gotten goose bumps a couple of times at practices." Testa added the team is excited. He said in practice there have been both good days and bad days. Thursday was one of the good days in the final practice for the opener.

Both games are being carried on 107.9 FM and 1420 KJCK beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.
