Elizabeth Jean Ince

Elizabeth Jean Ince, 83, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Homecare Hospice in Manhattan, Kansas.

She was born in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Elizabeth May and Eugene R. Harrison, Betty, as she was known, was an accomplished and energetic woman who remained devoted to family, friends and education throughout her life.

She is survived by her son Keith, her daughter Barbara, her grandchildren Taylor and Kailey, her daughter-in-law Michelle, her son-in-law Jeffrey, and her faithful companion Panda.

She is preceded in death by her husbands Robert Lee Ince and Louis A. Turner.

Betty attended The University of Kansas earning a degree in drama, and holding office in the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. It was at KU that she met her future husband, Robert Ince. Betty began her teaching career at Manhattan High School. There she would establish her reputation as a leading educator in reading and study skills. In 1986, she was offered a coveted position to create and run the Reading and Study Skills Center at Westpoint Academy, a unique honor for a civilian. In retirement, Betty returned to Kansas to live with her son and daughter-in-law.

The funeral service will be held at Yorgensen-Meloan-London Funeral Home on Monday, December 9th at 10:00am. A celebration of Betty’s life will follow interment at the home of Keith and Michelle Ince, 512 Haventon Court.
