Mary Isabelle Kramer, age 88, of Manhattan, died Saturday December 28, 2019 at the Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community in Manhattan.
She was born in rural Vermillion, Kansas the daughter of John and Scholastica (Stein) McCarthy. She grew up and attended Lillis schools, graduating from Lillis High School in 1949.
On April 17, 1951, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lillis, she was united in marriage to Eugene Kramer. He preceded her in death on February 27, 1987.
Over the years Mary was a tireless worker on the family farm, volunteered at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, St Thomas More church, Seven Dolors budget shop, Manhattan Welcome Club and the Flint Hills Discovery Center. She also managed and worked in her own catering business for almost 20 years.
In addition to her husband she is also preceded in death by her daughter Mary Jean Kramer McAnerney, her brother Jack McCarthy (Judy).
Mary is survived by her children: Patricia Stines, James Kramer (Leslie, John Kramer (Madeline, and Janet Taphorn (Kevin); her sister Ann Gephart (Ron, and also her 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mary’s wishes were to donate her body to the Kansas University Medical Center for research.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday January 10, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Manhattan, with Father Frank Coady as Celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested in memory of Mary to the Lillis Cemetery Fund or the ALS Foundation For Life. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
