Robert Smith, age 75, of Manhattan, died Saturday December 28, 2019.

Robert  was born on June 17, 1944 in Manhattan, KS to Marvin and Alberta (Carlton) Smith as the second youngest of six children; he is survived by five sisters Ruby Hornsby, Leona Stauffer, Lena Sherbon, Martha Templeton (John) and Joyce Brokaw (Dale). He attended grade school on Hunters Island and graduated from Manhattan High School.

Hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening and cutting/splitting his own firewood, among many other outdoor activities. He participated in horse shows and rodeos; enjoyed breaking horses and early years as a bronc and bull rider.

Over a 30-year professional career, he worked for Kansas Power & Light, Allingham Volkswagen, Umscheid Construction and Manhattan Trenching.

He is also survived by his wife of 51 years Linda, son Jason (Heather, daughter Jennifer (Kevin) and four grandchildren Jordan Smith (Amy, Paityn Smith, Jacob Saal and Alex Saal.

A visitation will be on Friday, January 3 from 5:30pm-7:00pm at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 4 at 10:00am (with lunch to follow in Fellowship Hall) at First United Methodist Church 612 Poyntz Ave in Manhattan.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riley County 4-H Foundation. The foundation will use the money for scholarships, youth awards, camps and judging clinics. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
