OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) -A Kansas man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his 22-year-old sister, Johnson County prosecutors said Thursday.
John Parker Mays, 27, Lawrence, was arrested Tuesday night in Douglas County after his sister, Layne Mays, was found dead, Overland Park police spokesman John Lacy said. He was charged Thursday and is being held on $1 million bond. Authorities have not said how Layne Mays died.
Layne Mays’s mother found her body and called police, police said.
Layne Mays studied animal science at Kansas State University, according to a university spokeswoman. She was enrolled at the university through the fall 2019 semester but was not enrolled for the upcoming spring semester. She was a member of Kansas State’s equestrian team.

Twenty-seven-year-old Parker Mays of Lawrence, is being held without bond in Johnson County, Kansas.
Police say Layne Mays' body was found Tuesday by her mother in her parents' Overland Park home. Police have not yet said how she died.
A Kansas State University spokeswoman said Layne Mays was enrolled there through the fall 2019 semester but was not enrolled for the upcoming spring semester. She studied animal science and rode with the school's equestrian team.
