Richard “Dick” Sherraden

Richard “Dick” Sherraden, Chapman, passed away on January 22, 2020 at Memorial Hospital, Abilene, KS. He was 71 years of age.

He was born September 1, 1948 to Elwood and Mary (Breen) Sherraden at Geary Community Hospital, Junction City, KS. After graduating from Dickinson County Community High School in 1966 he attended Emporia State University until he was drafted. He then served in Vietnam from August 1969 to August 1970. While in the military, Dick received the Bronze Star; Combat Infantryman Badge; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars; and Vietnam Campaign Medal. After returning, he transferred to the Reserves and was discharged February 24, 1971.

After returning from Vietnam, Dick returned to college and lacked a few credit hours in Business Administration. He was employed by Allerd Engineering of Ellsworth, Federal Civil Service and then USD #473 until retirement. His skills included drafting, painting and building maintenance.

He is survived by his sister, Patricia (Bill) Chamberlin, Chapman; brother, Bill (Vickie) Sherraden, Neosho, MO; five nieces and nephews and 15 great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elwood and Mary.

On Saturday, February 1st family will receive visitors from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. prior to the 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Burial of ashes will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
