Lawrence Free State broke away from a tie game at halftime and outscored the Junction City Blue Jays 16-7 in the third quarter enroute to a 53-38 victory over Junction City in the first round of the McPherson Invitational Tournament.
The Blue Jays had tied the game at 25-25 just before halftime on a three-point shot by Terrance Tedder from near the center circle at midcourt. That was one of four 3-point baskets by Tedder in the first half. But in the second half the Firebirds did a good job of guarding the room and the outside shots proved difficult for Junction City.
The Blue Jays 35% from the field while Lawrence Free State finished with a shooting percentage of 54%.
