Kathleen Steiner died on January 26, 2020, in Manhattan, Kansas. She was born on October 2, 1926, in Lebanon, Kansas, to Della Hester (Upp) and Sidney Charles Rice. She graduated from Lebanon High School in 1945 and married Robert Steiner on October 19, 1945 while he was on leave following basic training in the Army. She worked in Lebanon during his deployment to post-war Europe, and upon his return, they farmed in rural Lebanon from 1947 to 1958.
Following 5 years in Marysville, Kansas, they moved to Manhattan, Kansas, where they lived the remainder of their lives. They founded Bob’s Plumbing and Heating in 1966. After her children finished school, she became Rural Mail Carrier, retiring after 10 years. Throughout her life, she was very active in the church, schools, and community. She was an anchor to her extended family and an avid supporter of her children and grandchildren, proudly attending every performance, sporting event, or celebration they had. Bob and Kathleen were recognized as lifetime boosters of the Riley County School District.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and her daughter, Joyce. She is survived by her children Linda Scott, Lebanon, Kansas; Jean Steiner and husband Bert Allen, Manhattan, Kansas; Randall and Cathy Steiner, Manhattan, Kansas; Barbara Steiner and husband Tim Bergin, Ames, Iowa; Victor and Denise Steiner, Manhattan, Kansas; Sharon Steiner, Eugene, Oregon; as well as 21 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren, her sister, Betty Voboril, Esbon, Kansas; sister-in-laws Peggy Rice, Lebanon, Kansas; and Ruth Terrill, Partridge, Kansas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family visitation will be at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 28 from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Funeral services will be held at the Blue Valley Memorial United Methodist Church, 835 Church Avenue, Manhattan, on Wednesday, January 29, at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, with Reverends Laura Burnett and Kevin Larson officiating. Interment will be at Sedalia Church Cemetery, 6040 North 52nd Street, Manhattan.
