Be honest with yourself and be honest when you have failed. That's a primary message that Tiara Floyd left with the audience attending the annual Academic Banquet at Junction City High School Thursday evening.

Floyd, a 2016 JCHS graduate and the current Student Body President at the University of Kansas, said be honest with yourself. She noted that you may not always make it, may not get an A on the next test or get the job. You should be honest with yourself about failures. When you are honest within yourself things aren't as bad as you think.

To the students she said that they need to know that they have the power to do a lot of things and that "your voice matters." She also added, "Don't be afraid to stick up for yourself."

Floyd told the faculty that they should be honest about why some students aren't making grades or are bored in class."She advised them to empower themselves, and know that their voice matters as well.

A total of 243 students with a high school grade point average of 3.5 or higher for three, five or seven semesters were honored during the banquet in the Shenk Gym.
