Dawn Darrell Gross, 54, of St. George, Kansas died Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas.
Dawn was born July 9, 1965, Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of Donald and Carol Sowell DeGraff. She attended elementary school in Shawnee Mission, KS and then Manhattan High School. Dawn then attended Crum’s Beauty School. She was a hairdresser in Manhattan for Joyce Allen. For many years she cleaned houses and later worked as the sales floor manager for Verizon in Manhattan and then in Wamego. Most recently she ran an in-home daycare and was a Scentsy Consultant.
Dawn loved spending time with her grandchildren, fishing, fish fries, camping and activities outdoors. She especially enjoyed her daycare kids. Dawn loved to decorate for the holidays, especially Christmas. She enjoyed family time and playing games, cleaning, organizing and entertaining. Dawn was an exceptional cook.
Dawn married Raymond S. Gross, Jr., on December 21, 1999 in Manhattan. He survives in their home.
She is also survived by her children; Jennice Reid-Hansen (Tyler, Blair, Nebraska, Ashley Brown (Stephen, Shawnee, Kansas, Anthony Reid, Wichita, Kansas, and Amanda Boggs (Ian, Mayetta, Kansas; her grandchildren, Kambria, Kelsyn, Brooklyn, Mckenzie, Angel, Mae, Athena, Ember, Athena, Lukas, Callen; her dog, Boo; her siblings, Dennice Boyd (Dan Guth, Manhattan, DeVonn DeGraff-Dillard, Garland, Texas and Tracy Post (Eryl, Whiting, Kansas; her step-mother, Geri Runnebaum, Beattie, Kansas; and her nieces and nephews, Danielle, Darren, DeVonte, Landon, Marissa, numerous cousins including, Tara and her children, Mason, Kaleb and Frankie, and Jenny Belle and her children, River and Reese. Dawn was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Carol DeGraff and her father Lonnie Post.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego. A visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Following the Celebration of Life there will be a Pot-Luck Reception at Blackjack Hills in St. George, Kansas. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Dawn Gross Memorial Fund and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Evans Mortuary.
