John D. Lackey, age 36, of Manhattan, died February 10, 2020, at Stormont-Vail Health in Topeka.
He was born October 3, 1983, in Manhattan, the son of Dale T. and Ruth Ann (Henderson) Lackey, and had been a lifetime Manhattan resident.
John graduated from Manhattan High School in 2002 and attended Kansas State University.
He worked for Target and Tanner’s and then in November of 2016 he was hired as an assistant manager at Johnny Kaw’s. John was promoted to GM of Johnny Kaw’s in March 2017. In March 2019 he was promoted to Regional Manager and managed a team of 6 managers, and a staff of over 100. During his interview he was asked “Why do you want to work here?” and he said “I want to help people, lead them and be a part of a team.” John did that and he’s going to go out doing that. John was loved and adored by his team, and they are very grateful for all his help and the positive impact he made on so many lives.
John was a baptized member of First Christian Church. He was a sports fanatic and loved his boxer dogs.
He was preceded in death by his father in 2012.
Survivors include his mother Ruth of Huntsville, Alabama; his sister Christi Sexton and her husband David of Huntsville; his beloved niece and nephew: Cara Sexton and Evan Sexton; and his boxer Nash.
A Celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, February 15th, at the First Christian Church, 3001 Grand Mere Parkway, Manhattan. Private burial will be in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
