New playground equipment and a basketball court have been installed in the 5th Street Park. Quality Play for All spokesman Kendall Schoenrock said the next step is to work with the City to stripe the basketball court. "We're going to get that professionally done. We're looking into some possibilities of doing something kind of creative in the middle of that court with either a logo or a symbol, or potentially we're going to reach out to the community and ask for some input on that side."
Some additional upgrades to that area of the park will include bleachers, bicycle racks and connecting the basketball court to the walking trail. That will be done once the weather turns and concrete can be poured. "One of our long term goals for upgrading 5th street Playground Park is to repave the walking trail. " Schoenrock added a section was converted to concrete from asphalt during Phase One improvements involving installation of new playground equipment. "We're going to continue to those upgrades around the walking trail, connect that to the freshly poured concrete for the basketball court and then potentially continue that all the way around to have a new fresh surface which is nice to use."
There are five total phases of improvements planned for the park.
