Donald Lee Berges, age 85, of Manhattan, died February 17, 2020, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House.
He was born August 18, 1934, in Onaga, Kansas, the son of Roy R. and Velma L. (Zabel) Berges.
Donald was baptized September 16, 1934, and Confirmed May 7, 1950, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Duluth, KS. He graduated from Onaga High School in 1952.
On August 14, 1955, in Seneca, Kansas, he was married to Mary Joan Godbout at the Methodist Church in Seneca, Kansas. They lived in Onaga and Wamego prior to moving to Manhattan in 1961.
Donald worked for the Manhattan Fire Department, retiring as a Lt. He operated Kings Rug and Carpet Cleaners for three years and then worked 18 years for the City of Manhattan in Building and Code Services. He retired from the city in 1996, and then worked part-time for Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home for many years.
Survivors include his wife Mary Jo of Manhattan; five children: Marcia Quick and her husband Larry of Manhattan, Garry Berges and his wife Linda of Junction City, Lori Corbin and her husband Mark of Sioux City, IA, Mark Berges and his wife Caron of St. George, and Carol Workman and her husband Robert of Meridian, MS; his brother Lyle Berges and his wife Phyllis of St. George; 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Marlin Berges and his grandson Eric Ryan Berges.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was especially proud of his family and loved them dearly.
Donald was a member of the Sedalia Community Church and the Morning Coffee Group. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge, Order of Eastern Star and Manhattan Shrine Club.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, February 21st, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Reverend Kevin Larson officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, February 20th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.
