Lady Jays win while Blue Jays fall in basketball Friday night

Junction City High School varsity basketball games split their contests on Winter Homecoming night at the senior high. The Lady Jays ( 3-15 ) defeated Topeka West 53-46 while the Blue Jays ( 7-11 ) fell to Topeka West 60-52 at the Shenk Gym.

In the boys game Junction City jumped out to an 18-8 first quarter lead but the Chargers roared back to go up at halftime and never trailed again. Junction City players hit four 3-point shots in the first period but only two the rest of the game. Topeka West capitalized on the 3-point shot seven times with six of those coming from guard Bryson Bitler.  The Chargers also used a strong 2-2-1 defense to trap and force the Blue Jays into some turnovers.

Junction City will play at Seaman on Tuesday.

In the girls game the Lady Jays led by 11 at halftime before Topeka West climbed to within one point at 37-36 early in the fourth quarter. The Lady Jays then on track offensively. They were by Andrea Davis, who scored 15 point while Mellana Davis had 19 points in the win.

The Lady Jays also play at Seaman Tuesday night.
