The Geary USD 475 Board of Education will need to make some decisions on alternates for the new high school construction project as the process moves forward.
David Wild, Chief Operations Officer for USD 475, highlighted the most immediate need for the Board to consider, "expansion to make allowance for an orchestra room as well as expansion of the auxiliary gym. Those two decisions will be fairly quick, probably early summer, so that we can get them incorporated into the construction schedule." That will allow those facilities to be open on time.
Wild noted that there is more that could be added to the high school facility over time. "Much of it will probably go into a master plan and then just phased in over time."Those projects could possibly be incorporated into a six year plan and then undertaken as the school district can afford them.
The new high school is under construction and on target for use by the district beginning in August of 2021.
