USD 475 schools issue updated information

Posted Mar 16, 2020 11:15 PM
  1. By written order of the Geary County Health Department and, under authority of the State Health Department, USD475 is directed to ensure all schools remain closed through March 27, 2020. The District is working closely with the Health Department to ensure the safety of our community and will gladly comply with its directive.
  2. We are extending the building access days to include Tuesday, March 17th AND Wednesday, March 18th.  All schools will be open from 8am to Noon AND then 1 to 7pm.  Schools will be open at these times so students and parents may retrieve personal items to include medications, clothing, backpacks, and devices required for possible e-learning.
  3. USD 475 realizes the need for continuing learning opportunities while our schools are closed.  The district Teaching and Learning department, in conjunction with our educational staff, are creating a list of a variety of resources that will be provided later this week.  We are continuing to explore methods in which we can provide direct instruction should we continue to be closed, per Geary County Health Dept. and KDHE guidelines.  It is necessary that your student have their district device to access the district’s curriculum resources.
  4. For those students who did not receive laptops either by choice or because they were not issued, one can be checked out at their respective school.
  5. USD475 Lunch Program: Effective Tuesday, 17 March, USD475 Central Kitchen will make Grab-n-Go meals available at the following schools. Early Childhood Development Center, Junction City Middle School, Washington Elementary, Seitz Elementary (Fort Riley, and Spring Valley.  All children ages 1 through 18 qualify for these meals but must be present to receive. Meals may not be picked up and taken to children.  Meals will be distributed between 11:30 and 12:30 Monday through Friday. Each child will receive a lunch meal for that day plus a sack breakfast for the following morning.  We ask for your patience as this program is developed. The District will evaluate and expand the program to other sites as needed.
