The Geary County Sheriff’s Office has had a few inquiries concerning COVID-19 within our inmate population. Currently, there are no inmates housed in Geary County Jail being quarantined or diagnosed with COVID-19 (Corona Virus).
However, Geary County Sheriff’s Office and Jail Staff are taking the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
Upon intake into Geary County Jail, individuals are evaluated by Correctional Officers. They are checked for elevated body temperature, shortness of breath and persistent coughing. Individuals are also asked about any recent travel within and/or outside of the country.
We are checking each inmate daily for the symptoms of Covid-19. If any inmate were to display symptoms of COVID-19, they would be quarantined and placed in a cell separate from other inmates. Jail Staff is working with the Geary County Health Department and Geary Community Hospital to form a contingency plan if we were to have an inmate need hospitalization and treatment due to COVID-19.
Jail staff members are cleaning/disinfecting work areas regularly and utilizing gloves and hand sanitizer. Staff and inmates are also cleaning and disinfecting the housing units and individual cells regularly to prevent the spread of germs.
