April 6 is the new date for the beginning of the online e-learning for Geary USD 475 students. The original date had been April 1.
Associate Superintendent Lacee Sell said the starting date was being pushed back to April 6 to ensure there are enough WiFi hot spots in the community and the schools.
Superintendent Dr. Reginald Eggleston said the district's IT Department did a survey to learn how many of the students had a WiFi connection. "We found that numerous students across the district are without the connection. Yes they have computers, but now that we're going to be able to provide the hot spots this will now give them access to the e-learning platform and all the resources that many of our students are taking advantage of right now."
Sell said this will allow the teaching staff more time for professional development and "ample time to be prepared." This change in date also gives teachers enough time to talk with parents and students to share the information on the plans.
