Dr. Max L. Long

Dr. Max L. Long, 93, Abilene, Kansas passed away at his home, March 27th, 2020.

He was born March 27th, 1927 at the family farm south of Chapman, Kansas, to Loren and Esther (Buhrer) Long.

Max attended Prairie Cottage Grade School and graduated from Chapman High School in 1945. He attended Kansas State University. He graduated from Kansas State Chiropractic College in October, 1955. He started his practice in Wichita, but in November, 1956 he returned to Abilene and practiced until fall of 2018 when his health forced him to retire. One of Max’s greatest joys was being able to help people.

Max married Edna Edwards, March 4, 1956 in Topeka, Kansas.

He is survived by his wife of the home, two sons, Jeffrey, Salina, kansas, Bruce (Deana, Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Sarah Long, Abilene, Lysa (Derrick) Matthew, Bronson, Kansas, Jessica Long, Tucson, Arizona, Joel (Kiersten) Long, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jonah Long and Lydia Long, Dallas, Texas. Max was blessed with thirteen great-grandchildren . One sister Phyllis Kolling, Abilene, sister-in-law Linda Long, Columbus, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Leland and brother-in-law Henry Kolling.

The family has chosen cremation. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations in Max’s memory to First Christian Church where he served as an elder for decades until he became elder emeritus.
