JCHS Principal addresses virtual commencement decision

Junction City High School will hold a virtual commencement for the seniors on May 23rd. Not everyone agreed with the decision but the principal, Melissa Sharp, pointed out regardless of the decision people weren't going to agree with it.

The school facilities are closed and after graduation JCHS seniors typically move to many locations across the country, ranging from the military to college.

Sharp explained the decision on commencement was "a no-win situation because we love our kids. We are in the business to work with teenagers. We see them grow up too. Our teachers are hurting right now just like our students are hurting. We are all grieving the loss of school and the loss of connectivity."

Sharp told the community, "This is not our ideal situation. We are in the business of graduating students. As a district whether you are a kindergarten teacher, a middle school team teacher, a hall monitor, a senior government teacher or principal that is our job is to issue transcripts and move people on into adulthood."

School facilities have been closed since mid-March. The district is educating students with online e-learning.
