The commanding general at Fort Riley, Major General John Kolasheski said Wednesday evening that the Post will be more conservative in their COVID-19 reopening than area counties.

Kolasheski said the Army is working with Riley and Geary counties plus others in the region to understand their restrictions and limitations on opening of key facilities and services. "Fort Riley, and I've been consistent with this, is that we will reopen facilities and downgrade our health protection measures at a slower rate than the surrounding community."

Kolasheski said they are America's army. "And our nation requires us to remain ready to deploy, fight and win anywhere and at anytime. As we have gone through the last ten weeks that capability or that requirement has been demonstrated as our sustainment brigade had to put together several teams and deploy them in the continental United States on about a 48-hour string."

Kolasheski addressed the reopening subject during a Town Hall at Fort Riley.
