The annual Juneteenth Celebration will not be held in Junction City this year, said spokesman Jim Sands. "As much as we wanted to go forward with Juneteenth we just couldn't. This virus ( COVID-19 ) , it's killing people not just making them sick. " Sands added organizers just didn't want to take a chance.

Sands said they are following advice. "We're going by what the governor said, we're going by what the scientists and the doctors are saying. We just don't want to take a chance on infecting anyone."

This would have been the 23rd annual Juneteenth Celebration. It was scheduled June 12th and 13th in Heritage Park. Sands confirmed it will continue next year.
