During the COVID-19 pandemic there has been a negative impact on the transient guest tax revenues for Geary County. That is the tax paid by users of motel and hotel lodging properties.

Michelle Stimatze, Geary County Convention and Visitor's Bureau director, confirmed in May that the transient guest tax revenues were down 43%. "Travel and tourism, it's really hurt our business. They're talking possibly another spike and that could really set people back once again.  Stimatze added they're hoping that is not the case. "We're seeing a lot of the travelers, a lot of the business people starting to get out, go to meetings, that kind of thing."

Stimatze noted that Milford Lake has also been active.
