Junction City fell to Lawrence Free State 1-0 in the first round of their Class 6A Regional Baseball Tournament in Lawrence Wednesday. The Blue Jays end the season 8-13 while Lawrence Free State improved to 14-7.

Blue Jay coach James Denton said the Firebirds scored the only run of the game in the sixth inning via a walk, a single, and an attempt by Junction City to turn a double play on an infield ground ball where the baseball ended up going into right field. That left the bases loaded for Free State, who then went on to score the winning run in that sixth inning.

Denton credited Blue Jay pitcher Jordan Kell for an outstanding effort, noting he really competed strong. He also told the team after the game that they "were awesome. I was so proud of them." He credited the Blue Jays for competing hard for seven innings, noting he felt that Junction City won the energy battle in the contest. Lawrence Free State was the top seed going into the regional.

According to Blue Jay Athletics twitter in softball Junction City lost to Garden City 8-0 in the first round of their Class 6A Regional Tournament in Garden City. The Lady Jays finished the season 6-15 while Garden City improved to 17-4.
