Posted Aug 27, 2025 12:43 AM

Geary County Public Works announced that on Tuesday, September 2 a historical bridge referred to as the Old Katy Bridge, located on Otter Creek Road, approximately .4 miles south of East Lyons Creek Rd, will be closed as it undergoes replacement of wooden stringers and wooden planks that make up the driving surface of the bridge. This project is expected to take approximately three (3) weeks.

Materials for this project were purchased using a grant awarded to Geary County in the amount of $81,984.00 through the State Historical Preservation Office, and labor for this project will be done by the Geary County Public Works Department.

The official detour route for residents and commuters needing to access Otter Creek Road East will be East Lyons Creek Road to Skiddy Road, then south on Skiddy Road to Red Road, west on Red Road, and back to Otter Creek Road East.

Detour traffic signs will be installed before the project begins.
