The JC Breakfast Optimist Club met on August 23, and members were introduced to the Safe Families Organization from Robin and Brian Berthod.

Robin is the Community and Church Engagement Coordinator for the local Safe Families organization. Brian is a US Army Chaplain stationed at Fort Riley.

The Safe Families for Children organization is a national, volunteer-led movement that is committed to keeping children safe and families together during challenging times.

Safe Families is a Christian organization which focuses on building relationships between volunteer families and families that need served and supported.

The organization is searching for people in the community who are willing to host children in their home for a few hours, days, or weeks. To qualify, individuals must have a background check performed,  their home must be  inspected and potentially other requirements must be met before children and their families are connected.

For more information, call the Centralized Intake Line at 913-933-3357.

The JC Breakfast Optimist Club meets every Wednesday morning at the Hampton Inn. Members gather at 6:30 a.m., with the meeting starting at 6:50. Next weeks speaker will be Alicia Scofield, Director of Student Support Services for USD 475.

Some of the business sponsors who support the club’s donations to 19 different youth organizations in Geary County include Coldwell Bankers/Patriot Realtors; Holm’s Auto Center in Abilene and Salina; NextHome, Unlimited and Re-Max Signature Properties.
