U.S. Senators Jerry Moran and Roger Marshall have released a list of 23 U.S. Department of Transportation grants to make repairs and upgrades to Kansas airports. The list includes $600,000 for Freeman Field, the airport in Junction City.
Ray Ibarra, Junction City Public Works Director, said the funds are in an obstruction grant applied for by the City. Obstruction lighting will be added on the lights at nearby Rathert Field, on the animal control building and on a fence on the west side of the airport. "The other phase of it is to bury some ( a portion ) overhead power lines on the north end of the runway. There is also power line replacement on the south side of the airport along 14th Street to bury a line.
The list of grant recipients also includes the Herington Regional Airport, which will receive $270,000.
