NAACP members gathered Thursday night at the C.L. Hoover Opera House to talk about the reactivation of the Junction City and Manhattan branches in that organization.
Kenya Cox, State Conference President, said that they're proceeding with the reactivation of the Manhattan branch and the Junction City branch. "Manhattan is ready today so I will be sending a letter forward to our National Association asking them to accept Manhattan's reactivation and to reactivate their charter."
Cox noted that Junction City needs a little more work. "They will be spending their next few weeks really reaching out and recruiting their members to join the branch and to get back active."
The two organizations will be seperate in the future but there was a willingness from several at the meeting to work together.
After the session Cox said it was a good thing. "This is really a time when we've got to look collaboratively, not just black people or white people but all the people." The national theme is "We the People."
Some of the Junction City community members who expressed a willingness to help recruit members and revive the Junction City branch were Fred Reid, Emp Taylor and Al Gordon. There were others who also expressed support. Social media, booths and tables at events were among ideas that have been mentioned to help spread the word about the NAACP in Junction City.
