Flint Hills Discovery Center
The Flint Hills Discovery Center (FHDC) invites visitors to journey into prehistory with Roar & Explore with Dinosaurs, an interactive exhibit featuring lifelike animatronic dinosaurs, hands-on discovery stations, and immersive play-based learning.
The temporary exhibit opens on Saturday, May 16, 2026.Designed to spark curiosity through movement, exploration, and imagination, the exhibit includes seven animatronic dinosaurs with lifelike motion and sound, along with interactive components that help guests discover the fascinating world of paleontology.
Guests will encounter well-known prehistoric dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Brachiosaurus, and Velociraptor. Through activity stations and interpretive displays, children can compare dinosaur sizes, examine fossil concepts, and discover what paleontologists do to study life from millions of years ago.
“We are so excited to bring Roar & Explore with Dinosaurs to the Flint Hills Discovery Center,” said Stephen Bridenstine, FHDC Director. “These lifelike moving dinosaurs will amaze young and old alike.
With the hands-on activities and interactive elements, it will be sure to create lasting memories for the whole family.”Visitors can expect a prehistoric experience filled with opportunities to imagine what life was like during the age of dinosaurs while exploring science concepts through hands-on activities. Highlights of the exhibit include:
- Animatronic dinosaurs with realistic movement and sounds
- A fossil dig pit where young explorers can uncover prehistoric treasures
- A 3D dinosaur skeleton puzzle
- A Velociraptor nest with hatching baby Velociraptor
- A dinosaur species identifier interactive
Roar & Explore with Dinosaurs was created by Miami Children's Museum and made possible locally through support from McCownGordon Construction, Visit Manhattan Kansas, Bayer Construction-Larson Construction, Capitol Federal Savings Bank, Orazem & Scalora Engineering, Thermal Comfort Air, and the Flint Hills Discovery Center Foundation.Roar & Explore with Dinosaurs is open during regular hours May 16 through September 6, 2026.
