Legislators are expected to try and make a policy addition

During a meeting with Geary County Commissioners this week, State Senator Jeff Longbine noted that there is a policy for memorials on the Capital grounds in Topeka. "For some reason Gold Star mothers have never been there and the Governor's Military Council felt strongly that we need to establish a memorial on the capital grounds, said Longbine. " There's a process for that which requires some approvals through the Capitol Preservation Committee, and then it requires legislation and it requires fundraising so that private dollars pay for it."

Longbine indicated there were a substantial number of sponsors for the needed legislation in the Senate and House.

Gold Star Mothers organization membership consists of those who have lost a son or daughter in active service in the U. S. military.
