Emergency Shelter funding is a topic for commissioners

Geary County Commissioners received an update this week on the financial needs for the Fresh Start Emergency Shelter. Alex Tyson, Commission Chair, said the Shelter needs funding to help with staff and providing basic services. "From noon until four they are able to provide one meal a day, "but they're looking for possibly growing and getting some staff in there to fill longer hours."

Tyson said Shelter officials did not have a specific funding request. In recent weeks the County had stopped providing funding for the facility but Tyson noted that the governing body may look at giving the Shelter the amount that the County had authorized for this year. There would still have to be a determination on an amount for 2023.
