UPDATE:
Because of low visibility, impassable conditions and extreme winter weather, the Kansas Department of Transportation has closed all state highways in 16 counties across north central Kansas; including Washington, Clay, Geary, Dickinson, Morris, Marion, Chase, McPherson, Saline, Ellsworth, Lincoln, Ottawa, Mitchell, Republic, Cloud and Jewell counties.
In addition, I-70 is closed westbound from the east edge of Geary County (near Junction City) to the western Ellsworth County line (west of Ellsworth), and eastbound I-70 is closed from Hays east to the eastern Geary County line.
Motorists should anticipate additional closures across the state as the winter storm continues to move across the state and conditions continue to deteriorate due to blizzard conditions.

The Kansas Department of Transportation has closed westbound and eastbound I-70 in Geary County from mile marker 295 to 313 due to multiple slide offs, crashes and dangerous winter weather.
A check with Geary County Emergency management revealed numerous vehicle slide-offs occurred on the interstate. Some emergency vehicles were stuck and couldn't move due to ice. Efforts were under way to remove them from from the interstate.
