The Lady Jay tennis team completed its season at the 6A State Tennis Tournament last weekend in Wichita.  They sent one singles player and two doubles entrants that qualified the previous week at regionals.

Hannah Micheel finished her senior year at state by medaling for the third time in her career.  She had her highest finish yet, earning 6th place.  After a first round bye, she defeated Shawnee Mission East, 6-1, 6-1.  She then played the #2 seed and eventual 6A runner up from Blue Valley North in the quarterfinals, but lost for the first time. In the consolation bracket, she defeated Mill Valley 8-0 setting up a rematch with a player from Olathe Northwest that she had lost to earlier in the year.  In the rematch, however, Micheel defeated her 8-4 to move into the 5th place match.  In her final match, she lost 8-5 to another player from Shawnee Mission East to end in 6th place.

Micheel ended her 2026 tennis season with a 30-4 singles record (33-4 overall).  For her career, she won 113 overall varsity matches, 103 of them in singles.

The Lady Jay doubles teams competed hard at the state tournament, but were not able to find success in either of their rounds.  The team of Zoey Micheel and Maddi Sederlin lost their first round to Derby and then to Washburn Rural in the consolation bracket.  They had a very successful season as they went 20-9. The team of Hannah Huddleston and Addi Sederlin lost their first round to Shawnee Mission East and then to Derby in the consolation bracket.  They also had a very successful season as they earned an 18-9 record. The Lady Jays team ended up in 9th place at the 6A State tennis tournament.
