Catfish anglers converged on Milford Lake Friday for day one of the Cabela's King Kat Classic tournament. A total of $120,000 in prize money is at stake, including $50,000 to the top two-person team.

By late Friday afternoon the team of Clint McCarter, Harveysville, Kansas and Jay Smith, Concordia turned in a strong catch of five catfish weighing a combined total of 78 pounds. According to McCarter their biggest fish weighed about 35 and a half pounds. "In the deeper water it was tough. It put up a pretty good fight. Once they get up to the boat they can swim straight down on you.

The weather was chilly early Friday. McCarter discussed that impact on the fishing. "The cold has actually moved the fish from the shallow water and moved them onto the river channels. "

The tournament resumes at 7 a.m. Saturday. Weigh-in scheduled at 4 p.m. Saturday.
