JUNCTION CITY, Kan. — The Geary County Health Department released a statement regarding COVID-19 vaccines and their availability to the public.

In the release, the Health Department stated that they have received numerous calls from the public asking about the COVID-19 vaccine and when immunizations can take place.

The GCHS received its first shipment of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine from the state, but in accordance with the direction from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Geary County EMS personnel and their staff who are in direct contact with the Health Department will be provided with their vaccinations first. Then, immunizations will be offered to other healthcare personnel in the community.

The GCHD has received a limited supply, but as more vaccine becomes available, more immunizations will be offered in accordance with the CDC and KDHE's Vaccine Plan.

An allocation of the new Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be sent to the Pharmacy Partnership for Long-term Care Program to provide vaccines to long-term care residents and staff. This program is coordinated between the federal government and CVS/Walgreens to provide long-term care facilities with immunizations.

Continued updates will be provided to the public concerning the vaccine, immunizations, and when they will be available to the general public.
