Repair work begins on Riverwalk Trail

Members of the Kansas National Guard engineer unit will spend two weeks for their annual training moving a section of the Riverwalk Trail located east of U.S. 77 near the Republican River back about 50 feet. The combination of water runoff and the river have caused some of  the trail to erode to where it's not safe at the present time, said Craig Bender, Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Council Director. "If you're riding a bike down there late at night you literally could probably end up being in the river and no one could find you for awhile."

The work will include tearing down trees and moving the trail bac. Bender added that David Walker is providing rock for the project. The effort was coordinated with KDOT, Junction City Parks and Fort Riley.
